About Americanized
Americanized is a food channel and recipe site about the dishes America adopted and changed. For each one we find the version it came from, explain what changed on the way over, and give you both recipes, step by step.
Every recipe is adapted from a named source, credited and linked on the page: a national tourism board, a cook from that country, or a test kitchen. The ingredient lists follow the source and the method is written in our own words.
How we estimate calories
Calories are estimates. We add up each ingredient using USDA FoodData Central values for the raw food, divide by the servings, and round. We count frying oil only for what the food absorbs, unless the recipe pours the oil back into the sauce, and we leave out sides listed "to serve" unless the page says otherwise. Fat that renders out in the pan isn't subtracted, so the real number usually runs a little lower.
About our photos
The food photos on this site are AI-generated images made to show each recipe and step. Historical photos are real archival images, credited where they appear. As we cook through the library we'll be replacing generated images with photos of the real thing.
